Gabrielle Union had to teach her boys about colorism

Gabrielle Union says she had to teach her boys about colorism after she noticed them only liking ‘light-skinned girls’ pictures on Instagram.

Gabby attended Essence Fest last weekend and shared her story with Refinery 29 about how she had to have a real conversation with her boys on colorism. She believes colorism starts at home.

Gabby asked her boys about the hottest girls at their highschool, and asked to see their Indtagram pages.

“Literally, probably about 10 girls I looked at had the same light skin, curly hair, tiny waist, butt, boobs — it was the same girl over and over again,” she says. “So I asked them to show me the most beautiful chocolate sister they’ve seen. They say there are none. I was like, ‘Why do they get exed out so fast? What is happening in your brain that is causing you to look at these women through a prism that is distorting their actual selves?'”

Gabby had a point to prove. She showed her boys Ryan Destiny's IG and they boys were like "Oh, she's bad!." after that, Gabrielle pulls up every black model, actress, video vixen or supermodel. She had to show them that chocolate women are beautiful too for them to believe it.

What an amazing learning moment for the boys.
